From: acupunctureone@hotmail.com Date: Thu Feb 15, 2001 3:33 am Subject: Leamington Point Compendium... I now have in my possession (not the ID kind) the Acupuncture Point Compendium published 11/2000 by the College of Traditional Acupuncture. Here is my review ... I paid about $37.00 as part of a group of students who ordered the book direct from Leamington. I am finding it to be a good purchase, offering some specific and nicely researched information about point functions (it nicely connects 5-E with point uses from a purely functional standpoint). My only criticism (and it is a big one) is it lacks much of the metaphor/art/inspiration of the WICCA notes which were based more directly on JR's lectures on the Spirit of the points. For my personal use I am now re-writing the two texts into one -- along with my personal notes from TAI and my "beginner mind". It should only take a year or so to complete ! Anyone want a copy ??? From: "Eric Renaud" Date: Sat Mar 3, 2001 2:01 am Subject: Re: Leamington Point Compendium... I am glad there is interest. I am not a copyright attorney (not even in my past life....) so I am not sure about what right I have to distribute these notes. I am fully aware that I have the right to edit and modify them for my own use and am in the process of doing so (so far, I have completed "Metal" meridians). In some parts, the language of the Leamington text is quite lovely, in others my old photocopied notes (said to be from WICCA, though I am not sure) are more "Spirit" oriented. My notes include generous amounts of each, with some of my own notes (mainly from Jane Grissmer and Tom Balles, TAI). I assume that the majority of all "Spirit" in the notes is either direct quotes or paraphrases of JR's lectures on the Spirit of the points. As such, I think that it cannot rightly be copyrighted, except by JR. The cat, it seems, is out of the bag. However, I am not close to finishing, have no urge to go head to head with Leamington or the author of my other notes (I don't even have a name...). What I will likely do is allow some friends to look it over and maybe leave a copy in the library at TAI as reference only. What I am putting together is nothing new -- just a compilation which is oriented toward the Spirit of the points from my sources. I find that in my treatments I tend to choose points (including Element points) for their inherent Spirit more than for the common indications, and then look over the indications afterwards to see that the points are good choices for the ailments my patients are suffering. This is the orientation of my notes -- but I have lots of work to do before I can have a conversation with anyone about copying them. I suggest you all inquire about the Leamington notes, they are quite good and can be legally obtained now. I am just a Spirit freak right now, so that explains my exploration. I also learn by compiling, which was useful to my classmates at TAI I hope, because I left lots of notes behind for others to use.
